Florida SR-22 car insurance
People search “SR-22 insurance” as if it were a product on a shelf. In Florida it is a certificate a carrier files to show you have a policy. No filing, no certificate. No policy, no filing.
General information, not legal or insurance advice.
Filing, not a coverage name
An SR-22 is paperwork the state or a court wants to see. The policy underneath still has to be a real Florida auto policy — at least the PIP and PDL floor, and whatever else the filing or the lender requires.
FR-44 shows up on some DUI-related files. The label on the letter is the one to repeat to a provider. Do not guess which form they meant. Read Florida DUI car insurance if the court case is why you are here.
What to put on the quote request
Start the quote request with that in the notes. A clean-looking form that hides the filing wastes a week. What you need for a quote is still the field list. The filing is an extra fact, not a replacement for cars and drivers.
- That you need an SR-22 or FR-44, in those words.
- The county or court if you know it.
- Whether you own a car or you are trying to reinstate a license without a vehicle.
- The current policy if you still have one — do not cancel it to “start over.”
If you do not own a car
Some people need a filing to get a license back and do not have a vehicle titled to them. That is a different conversation than a household with two cars in the driveway. Tell the provider you do not own a car. Do not invent a product name or wait for a page this site does not have.
If you do own a car, keep it insured while the filing is pending. A lapse is how an SR-22 file gets worse. How to switch still applies: new policy first, cancel second.
What this page will not promise
We will not quote a filing fee, a wait time, or a carrier that “always files SR-22.” Those answers belong to the provider and the state system after a policy is in force.
We will not rank high-risk markets. The request is the work. The metro page — Miami-Dade, Broward, Tampa Bay — is only there so the ZIP is not a guess.
Questions drivers ask
Is an SR-22 a type of Florida car insurance?
No. It is a filing that sits on top of a policy. You still need a carrier willing to write the policy and send the certificate.
Can I request a quote if I need an SR-22?
Yes. Put SR-22 or FR-44 in the notes on the first request. Hiding it delays the file.
Do I need an SR-22 if I do not own a car?
Sometimes, if a court or the state wants proof of insurance to reinstate a license. Tell the provider you do not own a vehicle. They will tell you what they can write.
Should I cancel my current policy to get an SR-22?
No. A gap can make the filing harder. Keep coverage in force, request the new quote, and switch only when the new policy can start.
Ready when you are
Request your Florida car insurance quote
Request a quote and write SR-22 or FR-44 in the notes. The filing is not a policy. A provider still has to write one.
Submitting information is a request for a quote, not an application for or guarantee of coverage.
