Florida rideshare insurance
If the car earns money between a passenger and a destination, the personal policy you bought for school drop-off may not be the policy that applies. Florida still wants PIP and PDL on a registered car. The app has its own periods. You have to say both.
General information, not legal or insurance advice.
Personal use and app use are not the same file
A personal Florida quote assumes the car is not a livery vehicle unless you say it is. Driving for a rideshare app is a use question. Put Uber, Lyft, or both in the notes on the quote request.
Some carriers will add an endorsement. Some will not write the car. Finding that out on the first request is better than finding it out after a claim.
The app does not replace the Florida floor
Platform coverage, when it applies, is tied to app periods — offline, waiting, on the way, or on a trip. Those periods are the company’s rules, not this site’s table. We will not invent their limits.
Your registered car still needs a personal (or commercial) policy that satisfies Florida PIP and PDL. The app layer is not a reason to skip the household policy. If a lender wants collision, that is still on you to ask about — full coverage vs liability.
What to send
If you also want uninsured motorist or bodily injury reviewed for personal use, say that too. Do not assume the app bought those lines for the hours you are offline.
- That you drive for a rideshare app, and which one.
- About how many hours, even if it is a rough range.
- Whether this is the only household car.
- The current personal policy if you have one.
Switching or adding a car
If you are replacing a personal policy because you just started the app, keep the old one until a provider can start the new one. How to switch still applies.
If you just bought the car to drive for the app, start on Just bought a car in Florida? and put rideshare in the notes. A new-car file that hides livery use is a declined file.
Questions drivers ask
Does a normal Florida car policy cover Uber or Lyft?
Often not, or not for every app period. Tell the provider you drive for a rideshare app. They will say whether they can endorse the personal policy or need a different file.
Does Uber or Lyft insurance replace my Florida policy?
No. The app may add coverage in some periods. You still need a policy that keeps the registered car legal in Florida. Ask a provider to review both.
Should I mention rideshare if I only drive a few hours a week?
Yes. Hours change the file. Hiding them is worse than saying “nights and weekends.”
Can I request a quote from this site if I drive rideshare?
Yes. Use the quote request and write the app name in the notes. A Florida provider will tell you if they can offer.
Ready when you are
Request your Florida car insurance quote
Request a quote and write the rideshare app in the notes. A personal policy is not automatically an app policy.
Submitting information is a request for a quote, not an application for or guarantee of coverage.
