Adding a new driver in Florida
A new license on the household changes the request. This page is for a new driver — not for a car you just bought (/new-car).

Who counts as a driver
Anyone who will regularly drive the car. Don’t hide a licensed teen.
A “weekend only” driver in Miami-Dade or Tampa Bay is still a driver. Carriers ask who has access, not who is on the title.

What this page will not promise
We will not promise a cheap teen rate, a good-student dollar amount, or that every carrier will offer the same discount.
If a school or defensive-driving certificate is real, mention it when the provider follows up. That is the discounts conversation, not a coupon on this page.
Coverage still has a floor
Adding a person does not change Florida’s PIP and PDL requirement. It can change whether you still want only the registration floor or you want full coverage reviewed because the household risk just changed.

Questions drivers ask
Do I have to add my teen to my Florida car insurance?
If they regularly drive the car, yes — name them on the request. Hiding a licensed household driver is how claims get argued later.
Will adding a new driver double my premium?
This site will not invent a multiplier. A new license changes the file. Request a quote with their real date of birth and license so a provider can review it.
Can a newly licensed driver get their own Florida policy?
Sometimes, if they own or principally drive a car. Often they belong on the household policy. Tell the provider who owns the car and who drives it.
