Is Florida still a no-fault state?
Yes. Florida is still a no-fault state. Two 2026 bills would have repealed that system. Both died before a floor vote. A quote request still starts with PIP and property damage liability for a typical car.
General information, not legal or insurance advice.
What no-fault means on a quote
For a typical car, your own PIP is where covered injury bills start, no matter who caused the crash. Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Insurance Requirements still tells you to show PIP and property damage liability before you register a vehicle with at least four wheels. The amounts on that page are at least $10,000 of each. Those are coverage limits, not a price. Checked October 24, 2026.
The plain version is Florida PIP and PDL. The registration table is What Florida requires to register a car.
What happened to the 2026 repeal bills
Florida Senate Bill 522 (2026) was a motor vehicle insurance bill by Senator Grall. The bill page says it would repeal provisions that comprise the Florida Motor Vehicle No-Fault Law. The Senate history shows it was filed November 17, 2025, referred to Banking and Insurance, and on March 13, 2026 it died in Banking and Insurance.
Florida House Bill 769 (2026) was the House companion, a motor vehicle insurance bill by Representative Weinberger. The bill page says its last action was March 13, 2026: died in the Civil Justice and Claims Subcommittee.
The filed text of SB 522 said the act would take effect January 1, 2027, except as otherwise provided. That date never arrived as law, because the bill died in committee. HB 769’s page shows the same kind of end: died in its first subcommittee, not passed.
The PIP statute is still the benefit rule
Florida Statutes section 627.736 (2026) is still the personal injury protection section. It was not removed by those bills. Benefit details, including the death benefit, stay on that page and on the minimum-coverage guide.
A later session can file another bill. This page is about the 2026 bills that died. It is not a promise about a future Legislature.
What to request now
Request the quote with the ZIP where the car sleeps. Basic on the form means you want the registration floor reviewed. It is a preference, not a bound policy.
If you want injury liability above that floor, say so. Bodily injury liability is still optional on a typical personal car. An FR-44 or a taxi is a different file. The coverage checker separates those.
Questions drivers ask
Did Florida repeal no-fault in 2026?
No. SB 522 died in the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee on March 13, 2026. HB 769 died in the House Civil Justice and Claims Subcommittee on March 13, 2026. Neither bill became law.
Is PIP still required to register a typical car?
Yes. The FLHSMV insurance page still requires PIP and property damage liability, at least $10,000 of each, for a vehicle with at least four wheels.
Did the January 1, 2027 effective date in SB 522 change the law?
No. That date was in the filed bill. The bill died in committee, so that effective date never took effect.
Could another bill repeal PIP later?
A future session can file one. This page only reports the 2026 Senate and House bills, and both died. Check the Florida Senate bill pages before you rely on a headline.
